CHICAGO — An 18-year-old man has been charged in the murder of the godson of a prominent Chicago pastor last year.

Police said the offender, who was a juvenile at the time of the shooting, is charged with one felony count of first-degree murder.

Christion Tucker, 21, was fatally shot while sitting in a car on the 7200 block of South Washtenaw Avenue in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on Aug. 24, 2024.

He was the godson of Pastor Corey Brooks of New Beginnings Church.

“I know Christion was in the neighborhood. It’s a diverse neighborhood. He was in his car apparently looking down at his phone and someone came up and shot him 12 times. What we don’t know is why,” said Pastor Corey Brooks of New Beginnings Church.

The motive of the shooting remains unknown.
