BALDWIN, N.Y. (PIX11) — A chase to catch an alleged car thief ended in the vehicle bursting into flames on the Meadowbrook Parkway Tuesday morning, according to the Nassau County Police Department.

Police received a report from the 61-year-old owner of a blue 2015 Dodge Caravan that his car had been stolen from the parking lot of a 7-Eleven on Grand Avenue in Baldwin just after 5 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to detectives, the man left his car running with the keys in the ignition when a woman walked up and entered the driver's side door and took off with the vehicle. Police put out a description of the car to units in the area.

A short time after, Freeport Police spotted the car on Sunrise Highway. Additional police saw the car speed through Freeport, Baldwin and Oceanside, police said.
