A 12-year-old girl has been charged by police over allegedly having weapons.

Police confirmed the child has been charged with being in possession of offensive weapons.

The charge comes following an incident in Dundee on Saturday, August 23.

It is understood to have taken place in St Ann Lane, in the Lochee area of the city, at about 7.40pm.

But a senior police officer has now warned the public against sharing 'misinformation' on social media.

It comes after a video of a girl apparently brandishing weapons in Dundee was shared online.

Some commentary on social media speculated on the ethnicity of the people seen in the footage being confronted by the girl.
