MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) - A loud bang rang throughout the Grand Valley on Wednesday morning as law enforcement destroyed a large quantity of 50-year-old dynamite.

The explosives were disposed of by the Grand Junction Police Department bomb squad via detonation around 11:45 a.m. There are no reported injuries from the controlled explosion and no threat to the community at this time.

The explosives were originally found on Tuesday by a family clearing a property on the 2500 block of Kenneth Court in Grand Junction. The Mesa County Sheriff's Office reported the items, which also included blasting caps, are over 50 years old.

MCSO consulted the GJPD bomb squad, which found the dynamite was too unstable to be moved for disposal, but determined the blasting caps were safe to be removed. The
