ORANGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was killed in a crash involving multiple semi-trucks on I-96 west of Portland Tuesday, deputies say.
It happened around 4:45 p.m. in the westbound lanes near Sunfield Road in Orange Township.
The Ionia County Sheriff’s Office said cars were merging into one lane for a construction zone when a semi hit an SUV, forcing it off the road.
The sheriff’s office said that the semi then rear-ended another SUV, pushing it forward until it was pinned between two semis.
One person died at the scene.
Two other people were taken to a Lansing hospital with serious injuries.
The crash remained under investigation Wednesday.
