MANSFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — The UConn men's basketball team has a new team member: 12-year-old Elijah Randolph.

While you won't see him on the court during games, behind the scenes, he’ll play a major role in cheering the team on.

Head Coach Dan Hurley announced on Wednesday that the Farmington native signed to be the team's newest IMPACT member.

The nonprofit organization Team IMPACT pairs children with college teams across the country, allowing kids to gain role models and build strong connections with players and fans.

On Wednesday, Elijah signed a two-year deal with the Huskies to support them as their IMPACT member.

It’s been a long couple of years for Elijah, who was diagnosed at age 10 with a rare form of blood cancer.
