OWENSBORO, Ken. (WFIE) - For the first time in three decades, the Owensboro Museum of Fine Art is getting an upgrade.

Museum officials broke ground on their new education building today.

Officials say the “Artland 2 Education Annex” will more than double the museum’s capacity to provide free art classes.

The annex will also serve as a community gathering place, hosting meetings, recitals, events and cultural programs.

Director of education Rebecca Stoen says this project will help keep creativity alive in the city of Owensboro.

“There’s so much dedication shows the dedication of our community of our Museum staff of our community leaders,” Stoen says. “We love the art so much that we’re we are taking the time and money to build a structure like this.”
