EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - Construction crews are adding crosswalks, left turn arrows and repaving the intersections of Green River Road and Theatre Drive, Sugar Mill Creek Road and Spring Valley Road.

This is after mother and her daughter attempting to cross Green River Road to get to a health care clinic on the other side nearly ended in tragedy.

“Someone was about this close to us, just ran by. As soon as I got over to kinda where the gas station is, I just looked at her and I was like oh my God, you know? I’m trying to get you help, but it could’ve really ended badly,” Jazmine Whitaker, a resident at an apartment complex off Green River Road said.

She says it was her own close call that encouraged her to do something.
