SALEM, Ore. — Salem police are investigating a pair of separate shootings that left two people dead overnight.
Although the incidents happened around the same time, police are handling them as two distinct homicide investigations, adding that detectives believe the incidents are isolated and unrelated.
The first shooting happened around 12:30 a.m. in a neighborhood in southeast Salem, in the area of 40th Place and Carson Drive.
A 911 caller told police that there had been a crash, and they found a person in the roadway. Officers arrived to find a man, identified as a 30-year-old Nicholas Micheal MacFawn of Salem by authorities, with multiple gunshot wounds. First responders took him to the hospital, where he later died.
One neighbor said he heard the gunfire.
