BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Since the 2016 floods, Livingston Parish has had the worst federal flood rating as determined by FEMA. After bringing over 250 structures up to FEMA standards in the past 18 months, among other improvements, Livingston is moving up in those ratings and bringing down flood insurance rates in the process.

Many flood insurance policyholders in Livingston will be getting a 15% discount on their premiums after April 2026. The parish is cautioning that people who do not have a full-risk rate policy may not be eligible. All new policies after that date would be eligible for the discount. Livingston Parish said it will be holding public meetings over the next few months to explain eligibility to policyholders.
