SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — City council will soon be hearing about a program that would allow rental inspections in Springfield.
The pilot program still has to be approved by the council, but proponents say it’s a step in the right direction for improved safety and quality rental housing.
“We know that we can preserve our affordable housing through a healthy homes guarantee,” said Alice Barber, a renter in Springfield. “We also know that we need a healthy homes guarantee because every single person in Springfield, no matter who they are, no matter whether they rent or own, deserves a safe and healthy place to live.”
The rental inspection program would cost landlords $35 per unit, per year for the inspection.
