BUFFALO, N.Y. — With the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina on the horizon, the City of Buffalo is debuting a new event for local seniors.

The city is holding it's first annual Senior Olympics on September 12 in MLK Jr. Park.

"With the excitement of the 2026 Winter Olympics right around the corner, this is a great time to bring to bring the Olympic spirit to our beloved City seniors," said Acting Mayor Chris Scanlon.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and Senior Olympians will be able to compete in a large selection of friendly competitions.

Games will include games of checkers, chess, pickleball, bocce ball, corn hole, walking relays. The events are designed to foster "a sense of purpose and accomplishment" while allowing seniors to stay active.
