Goffstown officials are supporting state plans to remove the Hadley Falls Dam near the center of town, understanding that the dam will be torn down in the coming years whether they back the project or not.

The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) is applying for $4.5 million in state funds to remove the dam and asked the Goffstown Select Board to submit a letter in support .

“If we get on board with helping the grant, we have more leverage to get you to do something else or help us with other stuff,” Select Board Chairman Peter Georgantas said.
