ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)---The New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation announced $3.4 billion dollars is being invested into the state’s water infrastructure.

The corporation helps provide low-interest financing and grants to communities to improve their water infrastructure. That means replacing lead pipes, improving sewer systems, ensuring safe drinking water, and helping to protect communities in flood-prone areas.

"The importance of investing in clean water infrastructure is so essential for public safety, for public health, and so essential for ensuring we're restoring our natural resources of the state," explained Amanda Lefton, New York State's Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner.

The corporation said the investment will go a long way.
