CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) -- The preliminary City of Champaign Township budget was approved by a vote of 6-3 Tuesday night, after being delayed for “a lack of reasoning” from Township supervisor Kyle Patterson.

Two weeks ago, increases in more than $100,000 in spending for the Strides Shelter and contractor fees were presented without reason, according to several board members.

Tuesday, board members said more questions came up when =Patterson mentioned the Strides budget would run dry in February of 2026, at which point he would seek assistance from other governmental agencies.

Board member Vanna Pianfetti said the supervisor also mentioned most of the budget was made by the City’s financial staff, instead of Patterson himself. It led Pianfetti to call for Patterson’s resignation.
