LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Over 20 Kentucky counties are currently under county-wide burn bans as dry conditions in the state are raising fire safety concerns.

“Even now, ahead of fire season, we are prepared should some fires break out,” said Brandon Howard, Kentucky Division of Forestry Director and State Forester.

Kentucky’s fall forest fire Season does not start until October 1, meaning there are no statewide burn restrictions just yet. However, multiple counties have issued local burn bans this past week as conditions continue to remain dry.

“If we don’t get any more rain before our typical fall fire season, which begins on October 1, then the fuels, which are the vegetation that typically burns during a wildfire, are just going to be much more receptive to wildfire growth,” said Howa
