PEORIA ( 25News Now ) - President Donald Trump’s recently signed executive order attempts to eliminate no-cash bail from states ; however, a Peoria attorney said he believes pushback in court will keep it in Illinois.

The order was signed on Monday and requires that the U.S. Attorney General submit a list of states or other jurisdictions that have cashless bail. Trump has said he will withhold or revoke funding for those local governments and their court systems until the states eliminate the policy.

In 2023, Illinois became the first state to eliminate cash bail under the SAFE-T Act .

Peoria attorney Kevin Sullivan said he believes the rule will continue in Illinois.
