ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - The beginning of the end for temporary tags in Missouri begins on August 28, 2025.

That’s when a new state law takes effect that requires sales taxes to be paid at the point of sale.

Temp tags are an issue First Alert 4 has covered for years, with cars on the road, sometimes with long-expired temporary tags.

It is something that catches the attention of drivers, and they expressed on Wednesday that they’re glad to see the state take some action.

“I think it will be a great thing to do. I ride all the time. Lots, I see thousands of plates, and some of them don’t have any plates on them. None. I don’t understand it. If that was me driving, I would get 10 tickets. That’s just my luck,” said Roy Cooper outside the North County License Office.
