LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A new law taking effect Sept. 3 is raising fines for speeding violations across Nebraska.

Infractions under the new penalties include:

1–5 mph over: $50 (up from $10)

6–9 mph over: $75 (up from $25)

10–14 mph over: $125 (up from $75)

15–19 mph over: $200 (up from $125)

20–34 mph over: $300 (up from $200)

35 mph or more over: $400 (up from $300)

The changes are part of LB530 , which also created the offense of tampering with an electronic monitoring device and gives the Nebraska Department of Transportation authority to lower speed limits under certain conditions.

The Nebraska State Patrol said the increase comes after a surge of high-speed cases statewide.
