Police have reopened an investigation into a 2012 cold case after a man’s body was discovered on a road in Ayrshire.

Ian Brown, from Dailly, was found dead by a taxi driver on the B734 Girvan to Dailly Road around 3am on July 28, 2012. Mr Brown had left a work day out with colleagues in Girvan after midnight and decided to walk seven miles home.

Police said there are possible sightings of him walking home, with the last being just after 1am however, but that his movements between 1am and 3am remain unaccounted for. His death was investigated as a hit and run incident at the time, and police said detectives have pursued “several lines of inquiry” in the 13 years since.
