A private hire trade body fears a “handful” of “influential voices” are being prioritised over public opinion , as a review of limits on the number of cabs working in the city was agreed.
Glasgow’s licensing committee has decided an independent review of its overprovision policies should be carried out, after officials reported there are conflicting views on whether they should be scrapped.
The decision follows a public consultation which found 93% of 4,440 respondents were in favour of the private hire limit while 90% supported a cap on taxi licences.
It was held after council-commissioned reports highlighted a lack of late-night transport options, including the availability of taxi and private hire cars, are a deterrent to people visiting the city centre.
