ST. LOUIS - The St. Louis County Council has voted to expand the senior property tax freeze, potentially offering significant savings to thousands of senior homeowners.

According to the Post Dispatch, the expansion means the tax freeze will now apply to the entire tax bill for eligible seniors, rather than just a portion of it. This change could benefit more than 80,000 seniors who have already applied for the program in St. Louis County.

Previously, the tax freeze program included a provision that automatically ended the freeze after five years. However, the council's recent decision has removed this automatic termination. Instead, the program will be reviewed after five years to assess its impact.
