FOLEY, Ala. (WKRG) — The City of Foley plans to improve drainage and reduce flooding along U.S. Highway 98, according to a news release.

The City Council recently approved a capital project that addresses the area between Hickory Street and Cedar Street in west Foley.

Foley Public Works Director Darrell Russell said the project includes replacing a culvert with a larger concrete drainage pipe in the area south of Magnolia Circle.

Mayor Ralph Hellmich said the city purchased a piece of property where the project is planned; it adjoins what was once a potato field, but has since been developed.
