CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio — Federal, state and local leaders gathered Thursday in Cuyahoga Falls to celebrate the start of a long-awaited cleanup of the Cuyahoga River at Gorge Metro Park, a project officials say will remove decades of contamination and pave the way for the removal of the Gorge Dam.

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 Administrator Anne Vogel joined Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, U.S. Reps. Emilia Sykes and Shontel Brown, Akron Mayor Shammas Malik, Cuyahoga Falls Mayor Don Walters and other officials to announce the project, one of the largest sediment remediation efforts of its kind under the Great Lakes Legacy Act.
