CLEVELAND, Ohio - The suspect who was shot by a state trooper this week near Case Western Reserve University after a car chase has a criminal past that dates back years, according to court records.
The pursuit and shooting triggered the second shelter-in-place order at the East Side campus in four months.
Leon Terrell, 18, and Noreonna Echols, 19, fled in a 2025 Kia K4 without license plates when a trooper attempted to make a traffic stop about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said.
Troopers stopped the car with road spikes, causing the pair to run and attempt to steal a Cadillac and a Chevy SUV at gunpoint.
Troopers confronted Terrell near Tomlinson Hall on Martin Luther King Drive, where an officer shot him in the leg, the patrol said. He was treated and released for a leg injury.
