PLACER COUNTY, Nev. (KOLO) - Sunday, Aug. 31, marks Overdose Awareness Day, according to a Placer County Sheriff’s Office Facebook post.

It is a day to honor the lives lost, to support grieving families, and to raise awareness about a crisis affecting communities across the nation.

“Overdose Awareness Day: A time to remember,” the post said. “A call to act.”

In 2024, Placer County had 57 overdose deaths of which 24 were fentanyl related, the post said.

It breaks down to 42.1% of deaths being associated with fentanyl, and 57.9% being tied to other drugs or alcohol, the sheriff’s department graphic showed.

“Each of these lives mattered and each loss is felt deeply,” the post said.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office holds drug dealers accountable, the post said.
