Hundreds are feared dead following an earthquake in Afghanistan

A devastating 6.0-magnitude earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has resulted in the death of at least 250 people and left over 500 injured.

The quake hit near the Pakistan border at 11.47pm local time (8.17pm UK time) on Sunday, according to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ).

Buildings were reportedly shaken from Kabul to Islamabad , Pakistan's capital, approximately 370 kilometres away, for several seconds. A second earthquake, with a magnitude of 4.5 and a depth of 10km (6.2 miles), occurred in the same province about 20 minutes later.

This was followed by a third quake, measuring 5.2 in magnitude at the same depth.
