Gov. Mike Kehoe has called lawmakers back to the Missouri Capitol to redraw the state’s congressional voting districts.
Normally, Missouri updates its maps every 10 years after the U.S. Census.
The last redraw was in 2022.
Critics, including legal experts, say the state constitution ties redistricting to that census—and changing maps now could violate equal representation.
Missourinet asked Governor Kehoe what he’s saying to those who call the move unconstitutional.
“Well, you know, there’s attorneys on both sides of that, “said Kehoe. “I’ve heard opinions on both sides of that conversation. So as most issues where there’s multiple opinions, it will get settled in due time if it happens.”
