POWELL, Ohio — Two orphaned black bear cubs rescued in Montana earlier this summer will make their public debut at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
The female cubs, Ursula and Yzma, have been cared for behind the scenes in the zoo’s North America Trek region and now weigh close to 60 pounds each. They will begin exploring their outdoor habitat on select days, rotating time with the zoo’s longtime black bear, Stevie.
Starting Tuesday, guests can see the cubs in their habitat on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The zoo expects to introduce the cubs to Stevie next spring.
The name Ursula draws inspiration from Ursa Major, the Great Bear constellation, and Greek mythology, while Yzma means “beautiful flower" in the Incan culture.
