Winnipeg police are investigating the city’s 18th homicide of 2025 following the death of a man found early Friday morning.

At 12:49 a.m. on August 29, officers located an unresponsive man with serious injuries in the 600 block of Langside Street. Emergency medical care was given at the scene before the victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. He later died of his injuries.

Police have identified the deceased as 25-year-old Melvin Catcheway of Lake St. Martin First Nation, who had been living in Winnipeg. Family notifications have been completed.
