SALEM, Ore. — Days after a special legislative session was convened in order to pass a funding bill for the state's transportation system , the state Senate vote has been rescheduled to later in September due to a Democratic lawmaker's illness.

Said bill is intended to prevent hundreds of layoffs and service cuts at the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) and transit agencies across the state after the original transportation package failed during this year's regular session.

Gov. Tina Kotek initially directed ODOT to push the layoffs back to Sept. 15 on the assumption that the special session would pass a funding bill before then. She announced Tuesday that she has now directed the layoffs to be delayed again to Oct. 15 to give lawmakers more time.
