VIRGINIA, USA — Six people were killed in crashes across the Commonwealth over the Labor Day holiday weekend, including two in Chesapeake and one in Norfolk, according to Virginia State Police.
Preliminary reports show three of the victims were not wearing seat belts. In another case, investigators could not confirm if the victim was restrained. The two other deadly crashes involved motorcycles.
The reminder to drive safely comes as Virginia’s new seat belt law took effect on July 1. Now, everyone in a vehicle, regardless of age or where they sit, must wear a seat belt. Previously, the law only applied to front-seat passengers and anyone under 18.
