LOWELL, Mass. —

The University of Massachusetts Lowell issued a campus-wide shelter-in-place order on Wednesday afternoon in connection with a report of a man carrying an object suspected of being a firearm.

Officers are searching for the man, officials said.

The man was seen on the school's South Campus.

Video shared by some on social media shows a person walking with what appears to be a firearm.

According to State Rep. Tara Hong, people on campus are asked to remain indoors and should follow all directions from Lowell police.
