MANCHESTER, N.H. —

A batch of mosquitoes has tested positive for Eastern equine encephalitis, the Manchester Health Department announced Friday.

The sample was collected in the city on Aug. 27.

Officials said this is the first EEE-positive mosquito batch found in the city since 2019.

EEE is a rare but serious disease transmitted by mosquitoes. Last year, there were multiple human cases of EEE in the state, with one resulting in death.

Health experts said about 95% of people who get infected with EEE don't develop symptoms. Those who do become ill can experience fever, headache, vomiting, seizures, confusion or brain swelling, and about one-third of
