A man was reportedly attacked by a black bear last weekend inside an Upstate New York home.

The frightening encounter happened on Saturday in Cairo, a town in Greene County in the Catskills .

A 63-year-old man entered his home on Saturday night and was surprised to discover a black bear inside an entry room, the state Department of Environmental Conservation told WTEN . Food and garbage were reportedly stored inside the area.

The bear then either “bit or scratched” the man while trying to flee the room, WTEN reported.

When Environmental Conservation Police Officers arrived at the Cairo home, the bear was gone.

Officers found the man with a “visible injury” at a neighbor’s house, the DEC told WTEN.

The man was transported to a hospital. His condition was not immediately availabl
