LATHAM, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- A man who stole from the Home Depot in Latham and then threatened store employees with his vehicle was sentenced to state prison. Philip Sarner will spend eight years in prison followed by five years of probation.

In September 2023, officials said Sarner took power tools from the home improvement store and placed them in a contractor's bag. When employees tried to stop him, the 44-year-old dropped several items, fled the store, and got into his mother's minivan. He then drove the vehicle directly at the employees.

Officials said the workers dove behind a door when Sarner jumped the curb and crashed into the building. He grabbed the stolen items and fled the scene.

He was later arrested by police and found guilty in February of robbery in the first degree while t
