BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines will soon be out of central Alabama, WBRC confirmed Wednesday night.

According to airport officials, the airline will stop serving Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, effective Oct. 3.

The airport says they were notified by Spirit and were told that the decision was difficult and part of the airline’s effort to transform their business for long-term success.

Spirit confirmed to BHM officials that customers who have booked flights after the end-of-service date will be notified through email about the change and will be provided information on how to get refunds. For more information, visit the ‘ Contact Us’ tab on the airline website .

Spirit Airlines began service in Birmingham in October 2024.
