ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - One year ago, Barrow County and its seat of Winder, Georgia, became the site of another deadly school shooting.
The 365 days since the Sept. 4, 2024, shooting at Apalachee High School have been filled with grief, resilience, political maneuverings and educational upheaval. Here is what has happened, and what is happening next, as the Apalachee High School community continues recovering from what Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp called “everybody’s worst nightmare.”
Where did it happen?
Apalachee High School has about 1,900 students, according to records from Georgia education officials. It became Barrow County’s second-largest public high school when it opened in 2000, according to the Barrow County School System.
The school has a staff of more than 150.
