MIDDLETOWN – The state will be pumping just over $6.5 million into redeveloping the former Solomon Kleiner Rehab Center in Middletown.

The center, which was part of the now defunct Middletown Psychiatric Center, has been vacant since 2006 and is slated to become a multigenerational cultural center.

On Thursday, in front of the building’s crumbling façade, State Assembly Member Paula Elaine Kay (D, Rock Hill) made the announcement with Assembly speaker Carl Heastie at her side.

Heastie says the State Assembly will contribute $3.3 million to the project.

“This is your money,” said Heastie. “It’s state money, and local representatives know their communities and the needs of their communities better than anyone.”
