ESCANABA, MI – A school in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula was placed on temporary lockdown on Thursday, Sept. 4, due to a threatening text message a student received about a firearm.

Escanaba police were notified at 11:15 a.m. that a student at Escanaba Junior/Senior High School had received a threatening text message, according to a news release from the Escanaba Department of Public Safety.

The message reportedly said that someone was outside the school with a firearm.

Police quickly responded to the school and conducted a thorough search of Escanaba High School and its surrounding area. All schools in the county were also requested to go under lockdown as a precautionary measure while police investigated the area.
