PHOENIX — It’s the end of an era.

That’s what fans of the now-closed Fry’s Electronics located off of Thunderbird Road and 35th Avenue had to say when they learned the massive building known for looking like an Aztec temple would be torn down and turned to ruins.

The City of Phoenix announced on Tuesday that it has received the permits to demolish the building this month. Instead, the plot of land will be turned into a new police precinct and fire station.

This store had been operating for about 20 years before all Fry’s Electronics stores were closed in 2021. Since then, the building has sat mostly empty with those beloved patterns and architecture still standing. A welcome sight for Taylor Watson, who would see it every day coming home from work.
