LOUISVILLE, Ky. — To slow down the impact of violence on young lives, the city of Louisville is expanding programs for middle schoolers.

On Thursday, Mayor Craig Greenberg announced the awarding of three grants to organizations in west and south Louisville to give kids more things to do.

The mayor says this investment is part of the Safe Louisville plan, focused on reducing crime in the city.

James Tatum, the director of the city's Office of Violence Prevention says that trends do show a downturn in violent crime.

"But we're seeing that the numbers of children committing violence are not lowering as fast as other demographics," Tatum said.
