BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Former Delano police chief Mark DeRosia faces no jail time after pleading no contest Friday to engaging in a sexually graphic conversation online with an adult he believed was a minor.
Prosecutors say DeRosia entered the no contest plea in exchange for 240 hours of community service, sex offender registration, probation and counseling.
DeRosia, represented by defense attorney Kyle J. Humphrey, was arrested in March of last year after a conversation on gay dating app Grindr with a decoy profile created by a sheriff's detective.
Authorities routinely use decoy profiles for child sex sting operations.
The former chief told investigators he was role-playing during the conversation, during which he asked for nude photos from "Andrew," the name on the profile.
