BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A Ridgecrest man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly almost struck two Bakersfield Fire Department firefighters and yelled obscenities in downtown Bakersfield.

Police said the suspect was identified as 40-year-old Jason Hernandez.

Two firefighters were standing outside the rear of Fire Station 1 in the 1700 block of 22nd Street when Hernandez allegedly accelerated at a high speed, failed to stop at a stop sign and attempted to strike the firefighters, according to the fire department.

Hernandez even veered toward them as they retreated on the sidewalk. He then stopped, yelled obscenities and fled onto H Street.

A warrant was then issued for his arrest, according to police.
