SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) - SporTran is installing brand new benches for all the bus stops in Shreveport, and they’re assuring the public that the new design is not meant to target the city’s homeless population.
SporTran got a $1.9 million grant to replace all the bus stop benches and to add 200 more to stops that currently have no seating. Along with that, they’re also adding 400 more shelters to improve the bus rider experience.
While some are excited to have a new bench, and even protection from the weather, some people claim the new design limits the amount of seating available.
Along with local opinions, the National Coalition for the Homeless claims this type of design is considered anti-homeless. However, the CEO of SporTran says they didn’t buy these benches to target homeless
