DOUGLAS, Ariz. (KVOA) - Construction has begun on a long-anticipated new commercial land Port of Entry in Douglas.
This more than $300-million port will be near the current port. The project, which has been in the works for decades, is expected to benefit the city of Douglas and Southern Arizona significantly.
"We still can't believe it - I'm still in shock," said Marco Salcido, a lifelong resident of Douglas. Salcido regularly crosses the border and has experienced delays firsthand.
Delays also affect shipments, with truck traffic often becoming an issue. Leaders like Douglas Mayor Jose Grijalva believe the new port will help alleviate these problems.
