A fan who directed a ugly slur at former Richmond player Liam McBean has been banned for 12 months.

The incident occurred in a SANFL qualifying final at Adelaide Oval last Sunday, immediately following the high-profile Izak Rankine slur .

After a short stint in the AFL in 2015 and 2016, McBean has become a star for Glenelg and is their captain.

Glenelg was playing Adelaide’s SANFL team, and McBean later admitted he was shocked when he heard the word.

The SANFL released the findings of their investigation on Friday night, the day after Adelaide fans were lashed far and wide for booing Collingwood Isaac Quaynor.

Quaynor was the target of the homophobic slur from Rankine . It is believed the fan used the same F-word when targeting McBean as Rankine used in his attack on Quaynor.
