LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KOLO) - A Nevada man pleaded guilty on Friday, Sept. 5, to promoting and executing a fraudulent tax avoidance scheme from 2015 through 2025 that caused a more than $3.5 million tax loss to the United States, according to a Department of Justice news release.

Michael J. Moore of Las Vegas is scheduled to be sentenced in federal district court on Monday, Dec. 8. He faces a maximum of five years in prison in addition to supervised release, restitution, and monetary penalties.

From 2015 through April 2025, Moore promoted a fraudulent tax avoidance scheme called the “Special Tax Shelter Strategy” at his tax and accounting business known as X Tax Pros, according to court documents and testimony.
