TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) - A new commercial port of entry is closer to reality near Douglas.

The groundbreaking had to adjust to conditions on Friday, Sept. 5. They moved the ceremony inside with a live feed of the site outside, all to mark the start of construction on a project considered not just a benefit to Douglas but also to Arizona and the rest of the country.

Side by side, Douglas Mayor Jose Grijalva and Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly broke ground on the port that has already been years in the making.

“We’ve been waiting close to 30 years for this, so it’s a huge opportunity, especially through the commercial side,” Grijalva said.
