The Portland Thorns scored in the 90th minute to earn a crucial come-from-behind 2-1 road victory over Racing Louisville and vaulted into fourth place in the NWSL standings Friday evening.
An own goal by Louisville’s Ellie Jean in the waning moments of the match made the difference as Portland (8-6-5, 29 points) escaped with three points after dropping its last two games at home.
Mallie McKenzie sent a long pass across the face of the goal to Jessie Fleming, whose shot was stopped by the foot of Racing goalkeeper Jordyn Bloomer. But the ball deflected off Jean, and crept back over the goal line for the Thorns’ second late haymaker against Louisville (7-7-5, 26 points) this season.
